Dandelion Leaf Capsules

Dandelion leaf is excellent for kidney support. In the past I have found that dandelion leaf has been a significant help for those with kidney issues. For this reason, the CBS/NOS capsules include both dandelion leaf along with other kidney supports including kidney extract. Kidney Glandular Extract and low dose SAMe if tolerated and Kidney Nucleotide Blend are also useful for kidney support. Both dandelion leaf and dandelion root are natural sources of iron and can be considered when iron levels are particularly low on a HE test.

Dandelion Root Capsules

Dandelion root is lovely support for the liver. It can also help reduce uric acid and serve as a source of iron. Both dandelion leaf for the kidneys and dandelion root for the liver are some of my favorite supports. For this reason the MTHFR A1298C Liver Support capsules include dandelion root along with liver extract and a number of other ingredients to support a healthy liver. In addition desiccated Liver Glandular Extract and Liver Nucleotide Blend are also helpful in supporting the liver. Both dandelion leaf and dandelion root are natural sources of iron and can be considered when iron levels are particularly low on a HE test.

DetoxAway™ Metal Excretion Support Capsules

For those wishing to push harder on detox of mercury this is a supplement to consider. It has a number of ingredients that have been reported to aid in excretion of mercury including wasabi, selenocysteine, glutathione, broccoli, garlic, NAC and the specialized form of B1 called sulbutiamine. Sulbutiamine has also been reported to cross the blood brain barrier. Also included in DetoxAway are higher doses of EDTA to help with lead, aluminum, cadmium. DetoxAway is for more advanced detox than the product called MetalAway which has much lower doses of EDTA and does not include many of the compounds found in DetoxAway. An intermediary level of wasabi and selenocysteine can be found in the Ion Transport capsule. The Ion Transport capsule is suggested for those with autism based on my findings that those with autism tend to have minor CFTR SNPs that can negatively impact ion transport. The Ion Transport capsule can also be used by those with CFTR mutations and also by those who want some additional wasabi or selenocysteine to add to their use of MetalAway but are not yet ready to look at more advanced detox with DetoxAway. Again, DetoxAway is for those who want more advanced detox support and AS ALWAYS work with your health care provider when attempting any detox protocol. I also suggest using supplements to  aid in addressing inflammation when working on detox, so additional considerations would be the General and Cytokine Nucleotide Blends and the Inflammatory Pathway capsules and/or Inflammove to help offset detox symptoms.  The use of Carnosine to help with hexamer reactions from detox can also be considered.

DHA Neuromins Softgels

DHA is a very specific omega 3 fatty acid that has been reported to be a help for brain development. The impact of DHA may be enhanced when used in conjunction with low doses of the Methylation Nucleotide Blend. In addition, for those who cannot tolerate the use of PS/PE/PC to support the short cut around the methylation cycle, the use of DHA may help to support that pathway. I believe that the ideal balance of omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids is achieved when using DHA in conjunction with the Omega 3, 6, 9 supplement.

DHEA Capsules

DHEA is a hormone that feeds into the pathway for both estrogens and androgens. This may be a useful supplement for those who are low in hormones and would prefer to let the body direct production of estrogen/testosterones on its own rather than directly adding extra testosterone or estrogen. Those who need extra adrenal support due to stress may benefit from low dose DHEA. DHEA does not directly feed into the production of progesterone so it may be best when used in conjunction with Progesterone Cream. Estrogen creams (BiEstro) can also be utilized. Another option for hormone support is the supplement called Pregnenolone which sits above DHEA in the pathway and as a result will feed into all three hormones, allowing the body to produce progesterone, testosterone and estrogen. Depending on the specific hormone that needs support, a balance can be achieved between the use of DHEAPregnenolone and BiEStro estrogen cream and Progesterone Creams. Vitex (chasteberry) helps to balance estrogen and progesterone and is another option that can be considered. Whenever supporting hormones I believe in CONSULTING with your own doctor, working from tests that show levels (instead of assuming levels are out of balance) and supporting with Indole-3-carbinol to help to promote safer estrogens and using Calcium D-Glucarate to help excrete excess estrogens from the body. Also recall that proper methylation is needed to safely process estrogen.

Dibencozide (Adenosyl Form of B12) Lozenges

A number of my specially designed compounded supplements already contain lower doses of adenosyl B12, such as MitoForce (333 mcg), Ultimate B Complex (333 mcg), Folinic Plus (375 mcg) and ACAT/BHMT capsules (167 mcg). However, a number of individuals really benefit from higher doses of adenosyl B12, such as the extra 8600 mcg in these tablets or the extra 2000 mcg in the Adenosyl capsules. Extra adenosyl B12 is suggested for those with mitochondrial concerns, those with high MMA on a MAP test, those with high valine on a UAA, those with issues related to fat digestion (adenosyl B12 to be taken with biotin) and for athletes. Since adenosyl B12 can be oxygen sensitive, it is preferable to use an entire tablet at one time rather than breaking an oxygen sensitive tablet into pieces. For those needing extra adenosyl support and not wanting to use the 8600 mcg in these tablets then the lower dose Adenosyl capsule at 2000 mcg would be a better choice rather than breaking this tablet into pieces. As with any form of B12 consider running a HE test first to be sure lithium is in balance before looking at higher doses of B12 support.

Digestive Health Chewable Tablets (Gut Health)

This is a probiotic, or the natural bacteria that line your intestinal tract. It is important to repopulate your body with normal flora; this program chooses to use only Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium for support of normal bacterial flora, and low dose Saccharomyces as normal yeast flora. This particular probiotic is a source of Lactobacillus reuteri which has been reported to help lower the level of H.pylori as well as other non-ideal organisms in the gut. A recent study has also demonstrated the reversal of certain autistic behaviors in animal models when supplemented with Lactobacillus reuteri. This chewable form of Lactobacillus reuteri is ideal for those who cannot swallow capsules or tablets. In addition, this is a source of xylitol which has been reported to be useful for dental health and to help limit ear infections. Lactobacillus reuteri has also been reported to be particularly useful for female health and aiding in vaginal flora. For a complete chart and listing of the probiotics I suggest and why, please see the separate Probiotic listing. This includes a more complete explanation of probiotic options and the rationale behind my choices for probiotic support.

DMG (Gluconic) Chewable Tablets

DMG stands for dimethylglycine. This compound may be a help for language in those with verbal communication issues and may do so by shifting the emphasis of the methylation cycle from the short cut to the long route. For this reason, it is important in my opinion to first support the short cut around the cycle, and also to have checked that lithium is in balance before adding DMG andB12 for long route support. Because DMG shifts the emphasis to the long route, I do not believe in using TMG (or betaine) to support the short cut around the cycle. TMG (trimethylglycine) can be an issue for those who are sensitive to methyl donors and TMG will convert to DMG. So, in using TMG for the short cut you generate DMG, which can shunt the system to the long route, often times well before you are ready to do so. This is why I choose to use PS/PE/PC and DHA for the short cut and then once it is ascertained that lithium is in balance to add B12, 5 methylTHF and DMG to begin working on the long route around the cycle. The use of either liquid or capsules of DMG are equally good and the dose can be adjusted as tolerated over time.

Dopa 400 – HGH (Mucuna Pruriens) Capsules

This plant contains L-dopa which is the compound that can be utilized to produce dopamine. For those who are low in dopamine, who are COMT – and may benefit from dopamine, for those with Parkinson’s, this is a consideration. I feel that before adding any supports for either dopamine or serotonin that you should work with your own doctor to look at tests for neurotransmitters as well as their breakdown products or precursors. Consider reading Chapter 16 Feel Good Biochemistry on neurotransmitter testing.

Dry Skin Lotion (Borage Therapy)

This topical cream is an option for those who cannot swallow pills or who want more targeted lotion for skin. I use this lotion daily. Borage is an excellent source of both omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids. Borage Oil works especially well to soothe dry irritated skin. Some individuals prefer borage oil to evening primrose oil for “PMS type symptoms” or breast soreness associated with menstrual cycles, and find that it is more effective for these conditions.

Vita D-Light™ Spray

Vitamin D levels are important for a range of neurological health conditions including studies showing a higher incidence of MS in regions of the country with less sunshine. In addition lower levels of vitamin D have been implicated in colon cancer as well as seasonal affect disorder. Those who have a tendency toward seasonal affect disorder should consider starting extra vitamin D and SAMe (if tolerated) in October and continuing through March. Where vitamin D and vitamin A can compete for transport into the cell, it is important to strike a balance between vitamin D and vitamin A support. Rosemary and Sage may help with Vitamin A and D transport and one of the benefits of the Vitamin D spray (Vita D-Light) is that it also includes rosemary. Also the vitamin D spray is useful for those who cannot swallow pills and can be combined with the use of Vitamin D gelcaps for those wanting additional routes of vitamin D support. Sage and/or Rosemary capsules can be used in conjunction with the spray for enhanced support for transport. Vitamin D plays a role in calcium transport along with the role played by Vitamin K. For this reason my preferred support for calcium is the capsule that includes vitamin D with vitamin K and calcium and magnesium that I refer to as cal/mag/D/K. Vitamin D also is involved in dopamine balance as well as blood sugar balance and that is why I have also included Vitamin D in the VDR/FOK capsules that help support the pancreas along with additional sage and rosemary for transport.

Vitamin D-3 2,000iu Softgels

Vitamin A – Vitamin D Softgels

Since Vitamin A and Vitamin D compete for transport into the body, the use of both vitamins in a single gelcap may help to prevent a deficiency of one or the other as compared to the use of only a source of either Vitamin A or Vitamin D. Rosemary and Sage are reported to aid in Vitamin A and D transport so these herbs can be used in conjunction with this gelcap. The source of Vitamin A and D for this gelcap is from fish oil. Cod liver can also be used to support vitamins A and D, however Cod Liver Oil also includes a range of other EFA. Due to the higher overall level of fatty acids in Cod Liver oil it may not be tolerated by individuals who cannot handle as many fat soluble products, in those cases the Vitamin A-Vitamin D capsule would be a better choice.

Echinacea / Goldenseal Capsules

Goldenseal is a source of berberine which can be a help for certain non-ideal bacteria. In addition there are some reports that it may help with language development. Goldenseal is one of my favorite herbs and it is part of my favorite microbial herb combo that is found in NaturoMycin as well as Seasonal Support. For my own children, I would use Echinacea Goldenseal plus elderberry at the first sign of a sore throat or sniffles. (These three are also a part of the Seasonal Support capsule based on my history of use with this combo for my own children). When Echinacea/goldenseal/elderberry was not sufficient to address a situation, or if a CSA/GPPP was significantly out of balance then I would move to the use of NaturoMycin. This is a long way of saying that Echinacea/goldenseal/ elderberry and/or Seasonal Support is something to consider as a ‘first line of natural supplement defense’ against colds. The berberine in goldenseal may also be a help to support bile as well as having antimicrobial properties. Echinacea is a wonderful more general support for the immune system. I do NOT believe in using echinacea daily unless there are chronic issues on a CSA/GPPP or chronic sinus concerns. Echinacea can stimulate the immune system and I do not believe in using constant supports for immune stimulation. For those who do not want to use Echinacea but are interested in the Elderberry and Goldenseal combination that is why plain Elderberry and Goldenseal are also available.

Echinacea Homeopathic (found in Wellness Cold and Flu Tablets)

This is a Homeopathic remedy based on Echinacea that I have used in my own home for years, along with Echinacea Goldenseal and the combination of supplements in Seasonal Support. I am a strong believer in Homeopathic remedies and have found this particular remedy to be very useful as part of a more complete approach to colds and flu that can also include extra Elderberry and Oscillococcinum.

EDTA Chelator Complex Capsules

I like the daily use of EDTA for a number of reasons. EDTA can help to bind a number of toxins including aluminum (which can be a problem especially when the CSA or GPPP has a number of non-ideal bacteria) as well as lead and cadmium. EDTA can also help to balance high levels of copper (excess copper relative to zinc can be a role in ADD) and high iron (excess iron drives bacterial virulence and can imbalance SHMT activity). For those who are concerned about toxic metal levels, the compound MetalAway includes EDTA along with a number of other ingredients to help with metal excretion. DetoxAway is a more advanced compound with higher doses of EDTA as well as ingredients to aid in binding mercury. Any compounds that do enhance toxic metal excretion should be used in conjunction with your own doctor. In addition to its role in metal balance, EDTA can help to solubilize the outer coating of a range of bacteria as well as biofilms, which makes these bacteria more susceptible to other antimicrobial agents. When used to weaken bacterial outer membranes, the use of low dose Chitosan along with EDTA has an additive value. This is why the compound that I designed called BactiSolve includes both EDTA and chitosan (BUT since chitosan if from the shells of shellfish, CAUTION should be used for those with shellfish allergies). I like to have a number of OPTIONS for EDTA available so that you and your doctor can adjust the amount, the dosing and the route of administration as needed for each individual. However, I do NOT believe that more is better in terms of EDTA as excess levels can cause bruising or bleeding due to blood thinning impacts. Therefore it is important to find a balance between a dose and source of EDTA to use daily for all of its important properties and not using too much for those individuals that may be more susceptible to bruising or bleeding from EDTA. For this reason, work with your own doctor on dosing of any EDTA supplement.

EDTA Soak

I do not have a problem using the EDTA soap daily along with MetalAway daily as a regular source of EDTA in my supplement regime.

Elderberry Extract Capsules

Elderberry is one of my favorite herbs and it is included in NaturoMycin sprayNaturoMycin capsules as well as the Seasonal Support capsule. It can be added as a separate herb for those who do not want to use more complete herbal mixes to address microbial imbalances. Elderberry has been reported to have tremendous positive impacts on viral infections including influenza as well as being investigated for its role in preventing HIV entry into cells. Needless to say this is a very potent herb for viral concerns. I suggest starting the use of either Seasonal Support (as a source of elderberry with other herbs) or simply plain elderberry in the fall for natural support of influenza. When one of my daughter’s had a severe case of mononucleosis, the use of Elderberry was a key component of her recovery regime. Whenever she starts to get a bit of a hoarse throat, I immediately have her add back some elderberry as a preventative measure.

ENADA NADH Tablets

NADH is one form of vitamin B3. This form is particularly important for energy in the mitochondrial Krebs/Citric Acid TCA cycle (so consider NADH if you have imbalances on your MAP or an Organix test). NADH is also important as an antioxidant. NADH is also included in the compound that I designed for the mitochondria called MitoForce, but the use of additional NADH is often a help. NADH can be useful for imbalances in norepinephrine/epinephrine ratio as well as for attention issues. I always like to use NADH when using Glutathione (GSH) to support the use of the reduced form of glutathione and to attempt to minimize the oxidation of any added GSH. There is some research to suggest that the combination of NADH and glutathione may also be useful for those with Parkinsons. Defer to your own doctor as always.

Special Digestive Enzymes (SDE)

Most digestive enzymes do not have sufficient levels of pancreatin. This is particularly important for those who show a need for extra pancreatic support on a CSA or GPPP test or for those with autism. In addition to having a specially formulated higher level of pancreatin, SDE also include 11 additional enzymes to help with digestion as well as a source of papaya. I have had SDE formulated to my customized specifications as I could not find another digestive enzyme that included pancreatin in higher doses along with these 11 other enzymes which also includes serrapeptidase. Serrapeptidase is another specialized enzyme that has been reported to aid in reducing inflammation, reducing mucus and to help with respiratory issues. I strongly feel that this is a digestive enzyme that anyone using my protocol should include as part of their daily support.

Evening Primrose Oil Softgels

This is an excellent source of the omega 6 essential fatty acid and gamma linolenic acid. Evening primrose oil is reported by some to be a significant help for PMS symptoms especially breast tenderness. Some individuals prefer Borage Oil to evening primrose oil for “PMS type symptoms” or breast soreness associated with menstrual cycles, and find that it is more effective for these conditions. The use of primrose oil or borage oil is a personal decision based on how well a particular individual responds to its use to offset PMS issues.

Vitamin E Succinate Capsules

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can also play a role in restoring glutathione levels. In addition, high dose vitamin E has been reported to aid in some cases of respiratory issues related to CFTR carrier status and with language in these cases. Where vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin and can be stored in the body, I am not a fan of super high dose support. I like several types of Vitamin E for different purposes. I tend to suggest the succinate form of vitamin E for those showing low succinate on MAP tests. (low succinate can be a particular issue for those with aluminum toxicity, which can create imbalances in mitochondrial energy and allow for non-ideal succinate levels). When the goal is to support vitamin E for more general vitamin E support, I prefer a blend of mixed tocopherols as is contained in the supplement called Perfect E.

Vitamin E Perfect E Softgels

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can also play a role in restoring glutathione levels. In addition, high dose vitamin E has been reported to aid in some cases of respiratory issues related to CFTR carrier status and with language in these cases. Where vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin and can be stored in the body, I am not a fan of super high dose support. I like several types of vitamin E for different purposes. I generally suggest Vitamin E Succinate for those showing low succinate on MAP tests (low succinate can be a particular issue for those with aluminum toxicity, which can create imbalances in mitochondrial energy and allow for non-ideal succinate levels). When the goal is to support vitamin E for more general vitamin E support, then I prefer a blend of mixed tocopherols as is contained in the supplement called Perfect E.

Fem Dophilus Capsules

This normal bacterial flora capsule is a source of two strains that may be particularly helpful for female vaginal balance as well as microbial balance to limit H.pylori. Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus rhamnosis have been reported to help lower the level of H.pylori as well as other non-ideal organisms in the gut. Lactobacillus reuteri has also been reported to be particularly useful for female health and aiding in vaginal flora. A recent study also demonstrated the reversal of certain autistic behaviors in animal models when supplemented with Lactobacillus reuteri. In spite of the name, I find this to be an excellent supplement for males as well as females. Particularly in cases where I am having trouble increasing the levels of normal flora on a CSA test, the use of Femdophilus daily, while rotating the other sources of probiotic has been able to restore Lactobacillus to healthy levels.  For a complete chart and listing of the probiotics I suggest and why, please see the separate Probiotic listing. This includes a more complete explanation of probiotic options and the rationale behind my choices for probiotic support.

Fenugreek Capsules

Fenugreek is a natural way to increase oxytocin levels. Where there is some research to suggest that oxytocin may help with autism and communication/language in autism this is a supplement that I like to suggest considering, especially if verbal language is a concern. A recent study found that increasing the level of oxytocin producing cells (by support with Lactobacillus reuteri) was able to reverse certain autistic behaviors. The combination of sources of Lactobacillus reuteri (such as Femdophilus and Digestive Health tablets or Gastrus) along with Fenugreek may have a positive impact on certain symptoms of autism. The oxytocin test is also an option to check levels prior to using or increasing the use of fenugreek.

Feverfew Capsules

Feverfew has been reported to be a help with migraines. I have found it to be a help for migraines when used in a more complete program to help with headache issues. Carnitine support and Nerve Calm Nucleotide Blend, may also be helpful for migraines as well as checking and adjusting gut pH and ruling out H.pylori as a contributing factor.

Fish Oil Omega-3 Softgels

Fish oil is reported to aid in lowering high triglyceride levels. High levels of triglycerides are sometimes associated with low lithium, in bipolar conditions and in conjunction with elevated cholesterol. While certain supplements such as Red Rice Yeast (along with CoQ10) may be useful for cholesterol this does not always help with high triglycerides. Fish oil and Pantothenic Acid have made a real positive difference with high triglycerides in my experience.

Flax Oil Softgels

Some studies suggest that Flax Oil can be a help for those with PCOS as well as menopause.

Florastor Capsules

This capsule is another part of the probiotic rotation that I like to use. Florastor is normal yeast flora, containing Saccharomyces boulardii. To keep a balance of flora I only suggest using Florastor1 to 2 times per week in total. For a complete chart and listing of the probiotics I suggest and why, please see the separate Probiotic listing. This includes a more complete explanation of probiotic options and the rationale behind my choices for probiotic support.

FolaPro Tablets

5 methyl THF (otherwise known as 5 methyl tetrahydrofolate) is the form of folate that helps to bypass MTHFR SNPs. An individual either needs to be able to produce their own 5 methyl THF (so no SNPs interfere with its production) or to add supplemental 5 methyl THF in order for the long route around the methylation cycle to function. However, the long route can trigger some detox and it also needs sufficient B12 (and hence lithium to be in balance) in order to function. Adding 5 methyl THF when the body has been missing it, can cause some significant detox reactions, particularly in those who are MTHFR C677T ++. For this reason, I believe in first supporting the short cut around the cycle (with All in OnePS/PE/PC and DHA) and making sure that lithium is in balance before adding extra B12 and a source of 5 methyl THF. Also, it is often tolerated better to start with very low doses of 5 methyl THF. Folapro is 800 micrograms of 5 methyl THF while the Methyl Folate 5 MTHF liquid drops (5 methyl THF drops previously called MethylMate B) that I designed are only 67 micrograms of 5 methyl THF. So using Methyl Folate 5 MTHF liquid drops gives you exquisite control over dosing of 5 methyl THF so you can slowly increase the dose as tolerated. While Folapro tablets can be broken into pieces, 5 methyl THF is oxygen sensitive so this is not ideal. For these reasons, the use of Folapro is great if you cannot use the liquid drops or you prefer to use high dose 5 methyl THF immediately without trying to slowly increase the dose. Also remember that All in One does include some very low dose 5 methyl THF (3.4 micrograms) along with all of the other components needed to support both the long route and the short cut so that All in One allows the methylation cycle to have support to start to get moving.

Folinic Acid (Megafolinic Tablets)

Folinic acid is the form of folate that helps to balance excess activity of the SHMT SNP and to help achieve balance in the methylation cycle when there is too much iron in the system. High doses of folinic acid can be a problem for those who have MTHFS mutations and many tests do not measure MTHFS SNPS. For this reason, I prefer to use low dose folinic, just enough to keep SHMT and iron issues in balance without causing problems due to the use of excess folinic acid. The Folinic Plus capsule (previously called MethylMate A) only contains 5 micrograms of folinic, and the AHCY/SHMT capsules contain 25 micrograms of folinic. The All in One general vitamin also includes low dose folinic (20 micrograms folinic). These LOW dose sources of folinic can be compared to this HIGH dose capsule which contains 800 micrograms folinic. Frankly, I feel that the 800 micrograms in this Folinic Acid capsule is too high a dose to utilize at one time. However, if individuals prefer not to use the AHCY/SHMT capsule or the Folinic Plus capsule this is an option. I highly suggest only using small amounts of folinic and then throwing away the rest of the capsule, rather than using material that may be oxidized.

Folinic Plus Capsules (previously called MethylMate A)

Previously called MethylMate A, this compound called Folinic Plus is a source of all of the ingredients to support the long route around the methylation cycle with the exception of 5 methyl THF. The idea is to first support the short cut and have low level complete methylation support with All in One. Then once you have ascertained that lithium is in balance on a HMT, it is time to add more  long route support. Folinic Plus includes nucleotides, low dose SAMe, PS/PE/PC, low dose folinic, intrinsic factor to help with B12 transport as well as including hydroxyl and adenosyl B12 and the ingredients to help support natural production of BH4. Again, basically everything you need to support the methylation cycle other than 5 methyl THF. The addition of 5 methyl THF is achieved as a separate item so that you have control over its dose and when to add it, as that can be the piece that triggers detox in a number of individuals especially those who are C677T ++. That is why Methyl Folate 5 MTHF liquid drops (5 methyl THF drops previously called MethylMate B) are added separately from the rest of the methylation cycle supports.

Folic Acid

I prefer the use of specialized forms of folate such as 5 methyl THF or folinic acid. However, there are some who choose to use higher doses of plain folic acid and this is an acceptable source for those individuals.

Forslean Extreme Capsules (Coleus Forskohi)

Some reports suggest that Coleus may limit the release of histamine for allergic reactions. When used in conjunction with Respiratory Nucleotide Blend this may be a help for those concerned about mast cell issues. (Recent studies indicate that the presence of Mycoplasma in the system may be a trigger for mast cell activation and so testing for Mycoplasma can also be considered). In addition as needed for allergies several other supplements can be considered including Butterbur and low dose Hyper-Balancing Nucleotide Blend to help with allergic issues.  A number of individuals have found that the Inflammatory Pathway capsules have made a major positive impact on long term allergies and that can be considered in conjunction with Aller-7. In addition, as tolerated SAMe with Ultimate B Complex (or All in One) may also be a help with allergies. Coleus may also be a help for the thyroid along with the use of Metabolic AdvantagePantothenic and PABA.
